Abstract
Akinetic mutism is a pathologic condition characterized by lack of spontaneous movements with little or no vocalization. Common cause of this disorder include trauma, epilepsy, brain tumours, psychoses and sequale of brain surgery. It can also occur in a stroke that affects both anterior cerebral artery territories and diencephalons. A 71-year-old woman presented to our emergency room 2 days after the sudden onset of unresponsiveness and right hand weakness. Brain MRI showed acute infarction of left basal pons. His unresponsiveness resolved completely within 1 week. Here, we present a rare case of transient akinetic mutism following pontine infarction.
